Shaler Township
Shaler Township
Shaler is a small, quiet suburban community beginning on the banks of the Allegheny River and extending northward in a rectangular area including the developed town of Glenshaw. It is known for smaller and older single-family residences, more affordable than those located in its northern and more compact neighborhoods. The commute into the city is a short distance and the adjacent town of Etna has some opportunities for local shopping, as does the corridor of the main thoroughfare, Route 8. Children here attend school either at North Hills, North Allegheny or Shaler School District facilities depending upon the neighborhood of residence. Because there is considerable range in the national rankings of the school districts, home prices in Shaler can vary markedly and based upon which district serves the home.
Median Home Value: $152,000
Population: 28,000 residents
